Come young, come all, to the city of Kolenous! Where the festival of the date the Volus were defeated has come. The commoners and craftsmen dine and celebrate in the streets, while showed creep in all corners of the Empire to where the renaments still sleep! The nobles however have gathered their kin, to the Keep owned by the Morgans; how plotting tis' eve! The household of Morgan is currently ill, so his first son will be our grand host for this year!

Rumors abound of this year's fair list, for it holds several names that require adue. Terrinath Gennos, our Knight's Commander, has escorted Lady Maggie; our court's broker and counter. The Cosheks and Morgans are attending as full, with the Tranzeks and the Hontha being brought up with call.

The King, the Queen, it seems they come too! Or at least our friends in the capital whisper through. It's been a year since we had seen our fair queen, and our feline-like king that sits by our steward Leu. Now I'm sure there's more, that much is true, but enough saying to who's here-let the ball begin!

Kaelus rubbed his face as he watched his older brother prepare after the speech had been said for the feasting ahead. He himself wore his house's colors in a silk doublet and a thin mantle upon his shoulders. He spinned his goblet idly in his grasp, thinking on his younger brother now who sat opposite of his love. Urie's apparent target however, didn't seem aware of just how close she was to her secret admirer.

Terrinath smiled mildly as he sat to the right of Berrek, Maggie upon his own right. He had escorted her in with his ornamental armour and clothes on, a SAKAP pistol hidden behind the chestplate. His darker golds, browns, and yellows distinguished him from the rest of the vibrant crowd, if not the armor itself. But it was what he wished to do, to show that the Knight's Commander was one of earned rank and not another soul in the court. He had sent several couriers and packages in the weeks before the ball, and both Maggie's men as well as some of his own Praetorian now blended themselves in with the shadows or guards. After all, never could one be considered over prepared in the east.

He glanced over at his escort as the feast and talking began with the music, eying over his escort appreciatively before nodding pleasantly. "Once again, an honour for you to allow me to escort you here tonight."

"How could I refuse..? Attending the Gala with you is much better for the public eye than one of my brothers escorting me - That would only enforce the fact that what family I have left is all I have left." Maggie had replied softly, her expression softening then into a less tactical smile behind a curtain of ebon hair - Something more fond, more kind toward Terrinath as she watched him from the corners of her eyes.

"Then again, I suppose I can't say that any more.." She thought aloud, a thumb turning the delicately glinting ring upon her exposed ring finger - Her finest gloves had been altered specifically so she could boast what was once whispered to him in the darkness of that room.

"No." Her violet eyes close gently, and a gloved hand reaches over to rest upon his arm, "No, I'm happy you're escorting me. Honored, in fact." She spoke quietly. Far across from Terrinath and Maggie, seated somewhere else at the table most assuredly from a spot where they could watch the pair, Maggie's brothers sat stiff in anxiety of watching their sister's every move. Infuriated, of course - Up until now, Maggie hadn't really taken any serious interest in anybody, and so they could easily protect her and fend off suitors as they'd promised their father they would. But now, well.. They weren't too happy about it, to say the least. Korvalis was able to keep himself more calm, though his eyes showed his true feelings through a narrow glare - Jackel, on the other hand, was trying to wring the molecules right out of his napkin. Poor thing.

Of course it didn't help, how Maggie was dressed. It was seductive, as her clothing usually was - A tight-fitting dress with gloves that covered nearly her entire arm, a velvet choker in which her family crest rested, and a plethora of politely exposed skin. Though the way she hung on Terrinath's arm, she made herself look like a closely-guarded ornament or jewel. If the engagement ring upon her finger didn't say she was taken, her actions toward Terrinath certainly did.

"I trust if I had come here with anyone but you, Terrinath, I'd feel like I were on trial."

Seated somewhere nearest to the center of the feasting table, or at the very least in a place of great importance without overshadowing the true meaning of the feast, Queen and King both were dressed in magnificent regalia, most likely organized by Lieuesiatus himself. (After all, Maero had tried leaving the castle with nothing but a comfortable tunic, slacks, slippers and crown, and his demand to go to the ball under-dressed was likely what drew Alyn into Lieu's line of fire, as well.)

That said, Maero was now dressed appropriately, as much as he didn't like it. Even a year after even becoming King, he still preferred rags to riches. (Not literally, of course.) But at least he'd learned to tolerate it better now, and wasn't trying to worm off his boots beneath the feasting table.

A shift of his emerald eyes over toward Alyn, and he finds himself staring, his thoughts slowly drifting from the discomfort of fancy clothes, to.. just how wonderful she looks. His tail gives a restrained jingle, as decorative rings and thin chains rest upon it, likely keeping him from thrashing it around too much. A gloved hand slips over, aiming to take her hand within his own, as nothing but an appreciative, calm smile crawls onto his lips.

"You look.. Gorgeous, Alyn. I almost forgot great that royal stuff actually fits you." 'great' and 'stuff', of course, were words adopted from Alyn. His speech sounded more and more like American slang by the day, and was almost a constant for him now. But he was comfortable with it, and knew Alyn would understand his words better that way than if he tried to switch back to his own terms. She might appreciate his words better that way, too.

Urie's palms slid beneath his crisp gloves with a clammy chill. His stomach clenched as his mind staggered to grasp that he was sitting straight across from Malochte. Who'd done this? Had Kaelus set up this awful table layout, just to mock him? He nearly skipped his meal entirely, his hand fumbling to his goblet for a drink. And another, so that he could instead focus on the warmth creeping up his throat from his gut. He stole sidelong glances out at Malochte, reveling in the sight of her warm skin, that flowing pastel hair.

"I can't believe this is happening," he muttered to Kaelus. His tone was more sardonic than usual.

"--Thanks," she breathed, almost reflexively. Alyn hadn't even fully registered the compliment; she'd been busy eyeing up all the other people around them that were surely eyeing her up.

She sighed. "You look really nice, too." Her eyelids fluttered as she focused on her plate, poked at it a bit.

Alyn. Alan. The difference between their names was one letter. In speech, it was just a slight lilt of the voice that gave it away. Depending on who was doing the talking, there sometimes wasn't any difference. It was bad that she knew her best friend was out missing in this world. It was worse that her very name kept reminding her of this, over and over. But, as Leu had told her, the biggest part of leadership was merely The Act. She'd have to act, have to look normal. Especially tonight, in lieu of so many important presences.

She yanked a smile onto her face and looked at Maero.

"It looks a lot better than what you first tried leaving in. And stuff." It was endearing that he'd stolen so many phrasings from her. So when she used the words as a joke, it was--well, it was an inside joke Maero was never really in on. But that was part of the fun, anyway.

"What is happening?" Kaelus murmured curiously, apparently innocent of the particular arrangement. "With the surprise guests we were moved down to in front of them, and you look a lot better then before. Heck, your eyes have lost their blackness underneath them, and you exercise in dancing has improved your health." Kaelus smiled wryly, glancing over at the sisters as he took a bite out of a chicken leg. "I'm sure you'll do fine brother, far better then our eldest at courting and treating a lady fair."

Terrinath Gennos

Terrinath Gennos

Terrinath himself felt like the ruler of the world as he gazed upon the height of his long life grasped about his arm. The fact at all she had finally agreed after that night had been, most likely known to her, had let loose his dammed up affection for the woman; and had certainly put it to use in the following week as they awaited further news of anything of note. "Well then be as honored as you like," He smiled lightly as his eyes twinkled a bit and lowered his voice. "I certainly have been for the last several months we 'spoke' throughout the night."

He had asked the makers to watch over the Queen's brother every night of when he heard of his conditions, and looked to the queen then respectfully. Leu wasn't around as usual, but the royal family seemed to have taken his advice to appear. Rumors and gossip was thriving about the table, bits he heard were mostly about King Maero himself. Noting his recent reports of the east, the extra Praetorian security he had requested was visible in the room.

His hand twirled a fork around some pasta as he finally looked towards the feeling of scrutiny coming from down the table. Spotting her brothers, he was able to only spot one of their intentions; the other he could only suspect how he truly felt. "It seems we are under a lot of eyes however," He smiled briefly before looking thoughtful. "Must be a surprise to the council who sought your hand without their knowledge-well, aside from the Praetorians and my retainer's men haha."

So, she was still worried about Alan... It was to be expected, of course, but it didn't bother him any less because it was expected. With another quiet jingle, his tail lightly swished in restrained movement, and his gloved hand, assuming it had taken Alyn's own, gave her hand a gentle squeeze of reassurance for what it was worth.

He lost his appetite in turn of worry for that boy - Alan. Truth be told, though it may seem cruel, Maero hadn't been entirely concerned directly for Alan this whole time. Moreso for the way his disappearance affected Alyn, which upon thinking about it, brought his ears to flatten against his head between his crown. It was selfish, he knew that. It wasn't that he didn't care about Alan, he just..

..Glancing back at Alyn, he draws in a deep, subtle breath. His food's already growing cold, even though he's only cleaned out a couple of shells of some strange, half-oval seafood that was served up alongside some fowl. His attention remains on her, his ears folded back purposefully so he didn't have to eavesdrop as he was inevitably prone to in crowds like this.

"..If you don't want to smile, you don't have to." He spoke quietly, leaning over just slightly to her with his voice lowered in reassuring tone, "Everyone here knows something bothers you, even if they might not know what it is. They won't think any less of you for acting how you actually feel. And I don't like it when you put on a fake smile.. It's so obviously different from the real thing, it's almost like an insult."

...

"And stuff."

"Are we? I would have imagined the Queen and King would be the center...--" Maggie's eyes drifted down the table, and after a moment, it finally came to where Terrinath's gaze rested. Of course her brothers both spontaneously found something MUCH more interesting than the pair, at which point Korvalis found an elder Edguine man to chat with, and Jackel began quietly tucking into his food in a restrained manner. At least they hadn't pretended to be asleep, as they might've done when they were younger.

"They're just.. Jealous, I suppose." Maggie mentioned quietly, purple-painted lips upturning into a delicate smile as she gently stroked at Terrinath's arm, looking to him, "They love me. It's nothing romantic, or any sort of Taboo." She thought she ought to point that out, before anyone began pointing fingers and claiming incest, "For a long time now, we've only had each other as company. And now that you have me, they feel like you're trying to take something precious away from them." She explains. After which, she reaches forward, gloved hands taking up her wine glass with a gentle touch and bringing it up for her to take in the aroma in the wide-brimmed glass.

"Just so you understand their motives, if they try to bully you after the party at some point. Your status doesn't matter to them, they might try taking a swing at you, no matter what I say.." Her eyes flash over to him, a soft chuckle accompanying a playful smirk. Though this smirk was no reason at all to assume she wasn't serious.

Kaelus's words failed to offer Urie consolation. He took another swig from his glass.

"It's not enough," was all he muttered in response to Kaelus. Before he could say any more, a pair of eyes flicked over onto them.

They belonged to Akilah. She grinned a warm, sultry smile. "Aaahh--well if it's not two of the Morgen brothers. Kaelus and Urie, correct?" Her voice was rich like mulled wine. "A pleasure to be in your company this evening, my lords."

Malochte nodded quickly at her sister's words. She stared at Urie for a moment, with a gape. She chuckled mildly. "You look so different, Lord Urie, I hardly recognized you!"

Urie recoiled in his chair and forced a scratching laugh. He shot a glance to Kaelus expectantly.

Her hand trembled as she squeezed his hand right back.

"I know," murmured Alyn. Her eyes wandered around the vast table. "I know they know; that's why I have to. Everyone's been staring at me. They're waiting--waiting for me to break down, or something." She took a sharp breath. "I'm not going to give them that fucking satisfaction, though. Vultures."

She took a few gulps of her wine. Honestly, Alyn wasn't sure which would be worse: facing this situation sober, or stumbling through it drunk. She re-applied her smile the way one would patch up some foundation, or lip stick. She looked out at the crowd, but kept her voice low.

"I need to prove myself to every single person here. None of them trust me."

"I'm sure that-" Kaelus had poke quietly, but paused in the wake of Akilah's voice speaking of themselves. Kaelus nodded her way respectfully, lifting a cup slightly. "The feeling is mutual for us brothers as well, the Coshek twins are certainly pleasant company in wit, charm and talent. Your quick jolt here was uneventful I hope?"

As much as he wanted to see if Urie had improved at all, and lifted the cup to his lips. The cup itself was empty, so he could speak to him while drinking quietly. The rune attached inside which it's counterpart nestled on a band of leather around his ear helped. "Ask how she is, if she's liking the party. If you need a minute to calm down, just excuse yourself for a moment."

Terrinath almost grinned wolfishly, but suppressed it to his usual fond one after a moment; the shadow of an impish one on the edges. "Well now, it simply means they are being proper brothers in at least protecting you. However, do you think they would take me two on one, or would they allow me an assistant and have a two versus two of sorts?" He leaned over, giving her a long-ish pck on the lips before leaning back again.

"Now, to what end they wish to be of it, that is something to ask after the spar if they wish to at least work on me. But I'm sure it will not blind them from trying to enact murder for this case."

Vanessa, standing in a slim, flexible but flowing dress, had been paying attention to the royals for some time. She had not been given any particular orders, but her expression of slight concern or worry was evident. Her ears tried to mix out the audible sounds as she moved and then stood near the nobles, but hers were not of Cooanei strength-so she didn't get all that much. What she did get however, had her step up pleasantly. She paused as if to decide something, then stepped to the side Alyn had free t give them their privacy. Her hand lightly clasped about her shoulder, the index finger missing from it were one to look. However, it was working like a typewriter on Alyn's exposed shoulder as Venessa looked to be pointing quizzically at some of the food on Alyn's plate.

You two do not seem to be enjoying yourselves | not the eyes either | if you want to leave no one would suspect anything other then you are very busy | Trust Terrinath he knows what to do | just make sure you tell the Morgen family head if they had anything planned

It was done slow enough to have her understand every letter, and the process itself would have taken 3-5 minutes.

Maero's ears folded back once more. That.. Ugh. While his hand that held hers only twitched softly, his other hand outright clenched, claws digging subtly into the wood of his seat.

"You don't need to prove yourself to anyone, Alyn. You proved yourself to them by taking your place at the th--" He cuts off, as close-ish foot steps reach his ears, though folded back - Perhaps it was a waiter or something passing, in which case he could ask for more wine. He could use it, if not Alyn. But upon glancing upward, he spies Vanessa standing beside Alyn - He doesn't react much, though.. He just stares at her, appearing a small bit upset. Not at her, mind. He'd have watched her fingers, taking in the message as it was given. He had nothing to say about it, but would gladly oblige and leave, if it were what Alyn wanted to do. He just wanted her feeling better, and soon.

"I don't think it would be a formal thing, Love.." She mentions, smiling into the extended peck to her painted lips, offering Terrinath another gentle stroke to his arm, before her hands left him altogether, "They're bullies, when it comes right down to it. They'll find you, alone, and try to beat you senseless until you agree to leave me alone. I've seen it at least twice before. They tend to have issues." Maggie mentions, slowly from her seat and slipping around it with subtle sort of grace.

"In any case, please excuse me. I have something I need attend to. I'll be back shortly." She mentions quietly, stooping down to place a soft kiss to his cheek, before trailing out of the room.

Of course, once she leaves, the brothers are right back to glaring at Terrinath.. It was kind of amusing, in some way.

At the advice, Urie spit the sip he'd been taking back into his glass, with a cough. He quickly straightened with an awful, off-guard smile.

"H-How are you feeling?--Agh! I mean, how are you--Are!--you liking the party so far?--Do you need more to drink?" he stammered. Akilah stared at him, her bottom lip hanging open slightly. Malochte giggled.

Urie's face flared a dark red and he hunched his shoulders up. "Please...Excuse me.." Clearning his throat, he swiftly stepped up and away from the table, nearly jogging his way off somewhere else--anywhere else!--to be away.

Akilah arched a brow at Kaelus, half-especting an explanation.

Alyn jolted as she felt the fingers on her shoulder. Relaxing, though, she took the message in. She shook her head--to the both of them, Vanessa /and/ Maero. Taking her hand from him, she gulped down the rest of her wine and slide her chair out from the table. She rose with a mocking elegance. Her cheeks were warm.

"Pardon me," she said, her voice breathy. "I need...some fresh air. No need to leave--just need some air.

"Ladies! And Lords! I shall be back," she said, raising an index finger, before offering a wobbly curtsy and ambling away from the table.

She hoped to find a balcony, or...something. These places had balconies, right? They were bound to. It was like some kind of unspoken rule. She spun her eyes around, trying to look for one without looking like she was looking for anything.

Kaelus almost visibly looked to empathize for his brother. It was the one thing he couldn't break in only two months-his ability to speak to her directly. As he watched her leave, he looked over to Akilah and smiled wryly. "If I could Akilah, mind if you walked with me? We shall only be a minute or so." He looked to Malochte. "Would you also terribly mind finding my brother, he seems to have a terrible stutter around such wonderful women. Perhaps a song or two mind soothe him?" He stood up and awaited Akilah if she said yes.

While the building itself was only four stories high, this level had one balcony for every five window sets.

Terrinath nodded and watched her walk out, then glanced back. His eyes were determined and light with anticipation rather then what his impish expression gave. He did however look towards Venessa, who now was looking at him curiously with a finger to her lips before watching the queen walk off. He motioned with a hand from side to side before gesturing her over. As she did, she leaned over and he spoke into her ear. Her face changed from frowning, to a smirk, then a thoughtful look before nodding once more-turning on her heel and leaving the room. Terrinath himself glanced down at the ceremonial sword he had-who knows, they were useful for at least one blow before cracking.

His mind did wander to the queen's. He knew being of a high rank what was expected of her, and while glad she came rather unhappy with himself for encouraging her to come while her brother was cold and trapped somewhere. They certainly were odd by anyone's standards, but her fiery spirit had been, like the first day they met, the real reason he knew she was the queen in the first place without Leu's motions.

Wrong. Kind of. While Alyn didn't exactly want to be alone--she wasn't about to reach out for anyone, either. Having found her empty balcony, she sat down on a stone bench, shivered as she hugged her torso. She brought her legs up onto the bench, and leaned against the smooth wall to her right. The chill rock helped to drain some of the warmth from her cheek, which was enough for her to be thankful for.

Her lip curled and she whimpered. Her fingers gripped tightly at her arms, and her head spin, as if the world spiraled out around her. She would indulge herself this moment, and then return to Maero.

Kaelus escorted Akilah away from the bustling crowds about the tables a bit, now smiling a bit openly now. "It seems my brother has certainly and fumbled about himself." Kaelus noted dryly before chuckling. "But for the most part I think he did better then without any preparation for tonight." Glancing over to see if she got the point, he continued on. "Those two have been courting each other for months without realizing it, and Urie was hoping to meet her tonight. However, I did not think the dinner planner would put us directly opposite of such regal beauties of the east."
